It is with great pride that Missalette Farm accepts the Lippitt Club’s versatile Lippitt show horse award for Harwich Tyrant, a great-grandson of Allen’s Major. This supremely versatile, 14.2 hand bay stallion has a real show horse attitude. He is a multiple champion in-hand, under saddle, and in harness, and his pure Lippitt breeding gives him over 24% of the original blood of Figure.

Tyrant got his big break in 2006, when his owner was able to invest in his first big sport horse campaign. Ridden and handled by Kimber Sobek throughout the season, he inspired his trainer to organize a clinic and demonstration about “Horse Dancing,” which encourages riders to be expressive and interactive with their mounts. Later in June, they went to the Mid-A Morgan Show, showing and placing in eighteen classes! There they took first place in the Jumper III Table 3 class, as well as firsts in Open Working Hunter 2’ 3” and 2’ 6”. Tyrant was also Reserve Champion in Hunter Hack and Reserve Champion Jumper. As a full-Lippitt, Tyrant was able to make a firm impression on “Hunter-type” Morgan owners in these well-filled classes at an “A” show.

At Old Dominion Morgan Horse Association fall show – 2006.  Lalique handled by Cecil Jones – 1st in Sport Horse Suitability 3 & Under.

Tyrant handled by Kimber Sobek – 1st in Sport Horse Suitability Stallions – Sport Horse Suitability Champion – Champion Sport Horse.

After their success at Mid-A, Tyrant and Kimber moved on to his very first Combined Training Event at Fancy Hill Farm. The only Morgan among sixteen entries in his division, Tyrant was in second place after Dressage and Stadium, and he placed third overall to a timing problem – time faults for being under time allowed.

Mid-July brought Dressage at Lexington, which hosted over 400 entries from all over the continent. Only six of them were Morgans. Top horse and rider combinations competed at this show, and Tyrant proudly represented Lippitt Morgans by placing first in his First Level, Test 2, Division – the only Morgan in that division. He was also Reserve High-Point Morgan, with a score of 63.529. The judges were tough at this show, and this was a very high score by any of that show’s standards! After a short vacation to settle a couple of mares – a bay colt and a bay filly are on the ground at the time of this writing – it was off to the races again!

Tyrant is beginning to have quite a following and fan-club at the Old Dominion Morgan Horse Association “A” Show (ODMHA) in September. Morgans with his type of breeding stand out from the crowd at that show, so his successes are always significant not only for Missalette Farm, but also for Lippitt promotion. The 2006 show, however, was his ultimate conquest, both as a competitor and as a breeding stallion.

The ODMHA Show places a significant stress on Sport Horse activities, so the versatile Lippitt is a real contender. Tyrant was inundated throughout the three-day show with well-wishers and fans, and his good nature prevailed through it all. Some even came from the concurrent and adjoining Paso Fino Show at the Virginia Horse Center to admire his type and to watch him in action!

To begin with, Tyrant was first in Sport Horse Suitability Stallions. All of the Suitability classes were well-filled, with nine in the Three and Under Suitability. Tyrant’s weanling filly won that one – the only weanling among yearlings, two and three year olds (and the best-behaved)! Then, with the highest score of all the stallions, mares, geldings, and juniors, Tyrant was Sport Horse Suitability Champion – for the second time – at ODMHA.

Next came the sport horse performance classes, starting out with his very first Trail Class – a noble effort which needs some work. In Working Hunters, he placed first in the 2’ 3” Warm-Up and second in 2’ 6”. Another Tyrant daughter, Harwich Mayfly, was Reserve Champion Working Hunter at this show, too. Of course, the Dressage Tests were his shining moments, placing first in Training Level, Test 3, and first in both First Level Tests 1 & 2. Receiving a second in Training Level, Test 4, at the end of the day Tyrant emerged as the ODMHA Show’s Sport Horse Champion. This was a perfect demonstration of a Lippitt’s ability to combine form with function, and to produce foals with the same qualities.

Finally, the ODMHA Show Committee had invited Tyrant to represent the versatile Morgan in the “Celebrate the Morgan” parade for both Friday and Saturday nights, which was truly an honor. The parade included representatives from every discipline, including In-Hand, Carriage, Working Hunter and Hunter Under Saddle, Show Horse, Western, and Dressage. As the last horse in the line-up, Tyrant was introduced by the announcer as “THE versatile Morgan, who represents ALL these disciplines!” It was a thrill to have the many spectators see Tyrant as the ultimate versatile Morgan in this parade, wearing the two Championship ribbons he had just received.

One week later, Tyrant returned to Fancy Hill Farm for another Combined Training Event. Again the only Morgan among the sixteen entries in his division, he was first after Dressage and was fourth overall. Many of the competitors recognized him from the July show and commented on his beauty and manners – he was the only stallion at that show as well!

In 2006, Tyrant was entered as a Life Member in the AMHA Open Competition Program. He has already accumulated fourteen medallion points, as well as fifteen High Points for Open Shows in Combined Training, Dressage, and Hunter/Jumper. In 2006, he finished in fifth place in Eventing in the Open Competition Program.

The ODMHA Year End Awards dinner was held at the beginning of December, 2006, with over 100 attendees. The awards just kept coming: Reserve Champion All Morgan Shows, Champion High Point Sport Horse, Champion High Point Open Competition, Champion High Point Morgan Promotion, and last but not least, ODMHA 2006 Horse of the Year!
