2006 WINNER
MINT JACOB
(Jake Mint x Mint Barb)
Speech as it was presented at the
2006 WMLS
|
Mint Jacob, the first offspring of the union of Jake Mint and Mint Barb,
was sold in utero to Greg and Deborah Siegrist and was foaled in the
spring of 1994.
Jacob and Deborah Siegrist have been training under the direction of Gary
and Regina Ware whose method of training is termed, “ Classical Theatrical
Dressage.” Dancing with grace, elegance, style and harmony----being “one”
with your horse best describes this in depth discipline. Training the
horse on classical concepts requires a thorough understanding of the basic
laws of gravity and locomotion. The understanding of symmetry and balance
coupled with an understanding of the mechanics of the horse’s body as well
as those of our own, should govern every rule written, every method handed
down from past and present instructors. Classical equitation demands a
heightened perception of feel, tuning into the horse and the environment
around us. What better horse for this elegant “way of going” than the
baroque Lippitt Morgan horse? These Morgans are not only conformationally
built for the work, but also possess the intelligence and heart to
accomplish the difficult “airs above the ground.” Jacob is proud to be a
representative of the Lippitt Morgan at each and every re-enactment,
Equine Affaire, parade, demonstration, ren-faire and musical presentation
that he attends.

Mint Jacob has performed for close to 200,000 people and spent countless
hours in traveling time to get to these events. In the year 2005 he
traveled just under 2000 miles within the United States. His activities
for the year 2005 include:
1. The Ohio Equine Affaire, located in Columbus, Ohio
2. Lewis and Clark Heritage Days, located in Old St. Charles, MO at
Frontier Park
3. The Jubilee Regional Championship Morgan Horse Show located in
Springfield, IL
4. The Kentucky Equine Affaire located in Louisville, KY
5. The Annual 1800’s Candlelight Christmas Tour at the Daniel Boone
Home located at Boonesfield Village in Southern St. Charles County, MO
As Lippitt of the Year, Jacob is proud to represent the Lippitt! These
horses are proud, intelligent, bred for versatility and the ability to
carry out any type of job when asked. Due to their often kind
dispositions, high IQ, stately appearance, and almost humanlike
characteristics, many have found the Lippitt to be quite endearing….and
consequently they will look for and seek him out. And thus, Jacob has
proven this as many come year after year to see the “chocolate horse”
perform!
Besides performing, Jacob is an active breeding stallion and it is not
unusual to find him breeding mares inbetween scheduled performances.
Mint Jacob is unable to be here at the WI Morgan Lippitt Show, however, it
is with the utmost pleasure that Edgewood Geneva is here to represent him
and accept the Lippitt of the Year award on his behalf! Edgewood Geneva,
sired by Mint Jacob and out of the incomparable Edgewood Captiva is the
result of the blending of two successful breeding programs, that being
Mint Farm ( Marshall Winkler) and Edgewood Springs Morgan Farm ( Robert
and Jacquie Schaumberg ). This lovely, conformationally correct daughter
of Mint Jacob is proudly owned by Jane Myers of Ash Royalty Lippitt
Morgans located in Centralia, Missouri.
In
closing, I would like to read to you the following poem entitled “The
Morgan Horse,” written by Edna Tisdale. It is truly a remarkable piece of
literary work written about the ancient Morgan.
The Morgan Horse
And so it was that God looked with compassion upon the new
and struggling nation, and He said, “ I will give these builders a
companion who will lift up their burdens and lift up their hearts and
refresh their weariness with his beauty.” And it came to pass that He sat
in their midst, a small and sturdy horse of fiery spirit, powerful and
strong but gentle with lines etched in matchless beauty, so that even as
he eased their burdens, their eyes beheld in wonder his grace and symmetry
of form, and they could find no flaw in him and neither could they name
his origin. The builders and the horse wrought well together and a new
nation was born and they called her name America. The horse was Justin
Morgan, given by God to the nation thru a humble schoolmaster, this day
enthroned in the hearts of men so that his name shall endure forever, and
he shall tread the golden trail of ages, side by side with man, and it
shall be said of him that he helped build America.
