2009 WINNER Mint Jacob

Lippitt of the Year 2009Mint Jacob and I are pleased to receive the 2009 Lippitt of the Year Award. As many of you may know, Jacob’s main focus has been in classical dressage and the “work between the lines.” These past few months we have included the work of “la garrocha” (the pole). Each year we set goals we’d like to meet, such as perfecting certain movements or perhaps moving onto the next level. We enjoy presenting the Lippitt Morgan to the vast number of people at fairs, demonstrations, parades etc. The people we meet love seeing Morgans as they appeared “way back when” and are always quick to make that comment. Jacob has enjoyed proving that Lippitt Morgans are versatile - “one horse that does it all!” When reading the history of Justin Morgan, the horse, it is quite apparent that he was a horse with many jobs. He was used for logging, plowing, racing, driving, and riding. Because he had the ability to multi-task as well as pass on his willingness to learn, Justin Morgan’s race was much in demand. Today, with costs rising, more people have become interested in purchasing a Morgan that can perform in multiple disciplines, but more importantly be the “family horse.”

One of the greatest attributes that I have noted in Jacob is his healthy, inquisitive mind as well as his willingness to learn whatever task I set before him. This intelligence seems to be a trait that runs within the Lippitt line. Our partnership is one that is based on trust, riding well, dedication and tenacity. Both you and your horse must be committed to “doing it and doing it well together.” Being compassionate, when your horse is struggling in a movement by simply lifting your seat while he regains the energy needed to complete the movement, is part of “being one with your horse.”

Linda Gardner of Waitsfield, Vermont, will gladly accept the Lippitt of the Year Trophy for Mint Jacob at the Lippitt Country Show in August 2009.

Thank-you Linda!
